Colt Model 1851 Navy CW Revolver with Ivory Grips

Description: Fourth Model manufactured in 1866. The revolver has the late Fourth Model features that include: large oval trigger guard, capping cut-out in the recoil shield, beveled loading cut-out and thick style loading lever latch. The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-", "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped on the left side of the frame and "36 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and "COLT'S PATENT No. 8108". The complete matching serial number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "8108" is stamped on the cylinder pin, "98108" on the wedge and the loading lever is un-numbered. The barrel and cylinder were finished blue, casehardened frame, loading lever and hammer and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap. Dovetailed blade front and hammer notch rear sights and fitted with a smooth one-piece ivory grip. Comes with a floral tooled Slim Jim holster with Main & Winchester San Francisco maker's mark.
Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 30% original blue finish, concentrated mainly on the underside flats and lug with a smooth brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth brown patina. The brass has an untouched dark aged patina with strong traces of original silver in the protected areas of the trigger guard bow. The grip is fair with a large piece absent from the right rear side. Some age cracking and a deep caramel patina. The cylinder scene is 90% visible and the markings are clear. The action needs work, the cylinder does not rotate when the hammer is cocked. The holster is fair with the stitching separated along the rear edge and the toe plug is absent.
